The correct term for ear ringing noises that you may be hearing in your head is tinnitus. When the cilia (those tiny hairs) become damaged or bent, movement happens at random intervals. Electronic impluses are then generated on a random basis and sent down the auditory nerves, that your brain picks up and tells you you've just heard a sound.
