Types and Symptoms of Tinnitus
There are two different kinds of tinnitus. More common form is known as tonal tinnitus, its common symptoms are ringing in the ears, chirping and buzzing sounds. This is basically caused by wax in the ears and due to continuous exposure of loud noises for long. It is also found in some cases that some medical conditions and medications also cause tonal tinnitus.
Sometimes if medication is the cause of tinnitus it goes away by itself once you discontinue the medication. If you notice any such change in your ears after starting some medical course, inform about it immediately to your doctor. But if the cause for tonal tinnitus is due to constant exposure of loud noises it may be permanent.
The second type of tinnitus is called as pulsatile tinnitus. This form of tinnitus is not that common as the above one. The main cause for this form of tinnitus is over exposure to loud noises like music or some mechanical instruments or machines. Nature of work of some people is such that they are exposed to loud noises all through the day, which develop this form of tinnitus.
Excessive deposition of wax in the ear canal is found to be another common cause for this condition. The problem goes away once the wax is removed from the ear canal. But if this condition persists for long and treatment is delayed it may also result in hearing loss. Using a Q-tip to clear the inner ear is not at all a good idea as it can damage the ear canal if done harshly.
Tinnitus can cause several other complications also. It is found to be very harsh on nerves. It causes sleeplessness in the nights and may also result in emotional disturbances. People cannot concentrate and do things normally because of constant nagging in the ears. It can also lead to other serious illnesses like depression and hypertension.
